Why Not Use Redirects?

Setting up redirects is not excellent. This restricts something down for the visitor because the browser will first proceed to the URL, then receive a request to redirect, and after that, it will go to another URL. And there’s a threat that you’ll misperceive the redirect, or forget to do so after modifying the URL. Not just that, but the links arriving via the redirected page are not so good for SEO – Google does not value them so much.

So it’s a good idea to avoid changing your URLs altogether. To underestimate changing URLs, ensure you improve them properly from the start:

  1. When you set up your website and before you add any posts or Pages, adjust your permalink structure to use an attractive permalink.
  2. Set up a slug for each page or post before posting it. Ensure that it is suitable for both search engine (SEO) and user experience (UX).
  3. But if you don’t already have one, and you need to redirect your URL, let’s get started.

To set up redirects, you’ll need to install a WordPress plugin. In this guide, I’m going to guide you on how to do it with the Redirection plugin.

Redirect a Post or URL in WordPress

You need your WordPress website to redirect one post to another or you need to redirect a URL on your domain to a different domain.

After installing the plugin, Go to Tools > Redirection and scroll down to the Add new redirection section.

In the Source URL box, type or paste the URL you desire to redirect to. In the Target URL box, type or paste the URL you need to redirect to. In the Group box, either leave it as redirects (default) or select modified posts if you are moving from the old post to the new interpretation. It will provide browsers with information on what kind of redirect it is.

Ultimately, click the Add Redirect button and your redirect will be executed to the list of redirects.

If you modify the URLs in your WordPress website or initiate a new post to substitute an old one, you’ll require to set up a redirect. After you have done this job test it once. This can have a detrimental effect on SEO if you do not include proper structure. If you are still unable to redirect your post or page put a comment with the problem below so we may help you.
